ABU orders 3 Nigerian boxers to defend titles


The African Boxing Union (ABU) has ordered three Nigerian boxers to defend their championship titles on or before July 31 or lose them.

LAGOS, July 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The African Boxing Union (ABU) has ordered three Nigerian boxers to defend their championship titles on or before July 31 or lose them.

The boxers are Fatai Onikeke (welterweight), Segun Ajose (superlightweight) and Friday Felix (bantamweight).

In a statement issued in Lagos today, Lawrence Olisa, assistant secretary-general of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, said the decision on the mandatory title defenses was taken at the just concluded ABU convention in Kampala, Uganda.

The statement also said the affected boxers had been briefed on the decision and preparations had begun to stage title defense fights soon. Enditem
